What if Spider-Man had Been in THE AVENGERS?

Last week, the pop-culture obsessed world was taken aback by the news that, in a history making deal, Marvel and Sony worked out plans that would allow them to share the film rights of Marvel Comics’ most famous character, Spider-Man. Since then, we’ve found ourselves inundated with more and more facts about the deal: who may be cast, the age of the new Peter Parker, the status of Sony’s planned spin-off films… but something many have pondered is how the web slinger will be introduced into the MCU.

Currently, there are no hints that anything related to Spider-Man exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – not even the Daily Bugle has had a nod. But, like the classic Marvel Comics’ series pondered, “What If?” What if the timing had been different, and the universe had allowed Spider-Man to turn up in the MCU much earlier, say in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers? What would it have looked like? Well, it seems the good folks at Screen Crush may have the answer.

While he probably couldn’t have helped close the alien portal along with Thor and Iron Man, there’s a good chance Spider-Man would have been a major asset on the ground, helping to protect civilian lives with Cap, Hawkeye and Widow as they fought the invading Chitauri army.

How do you think Spider-Man would have faired during The Battle of New York? Let us know in the comments below.
