STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II’s Trailer Details the Emperor’s Revenge

If there’s anything that the Star Wars films have taught us about Sheev Palpatine it’s that the man who would be Emperor always planned ahead. Order 66 proved that, and so did the Clone Wars. Does anyone really think that the Emperor didn’t have plans in place for the unlikely event of his death? The new preview video from Star Wars Battlefront II reveals the Emperor’s last command was meant to be his ultimate revenge. But “scorched Earth” doesn’t quite cover it. Palpatine’s vision of destruction is more like a “scorched galaxy.”

This clip is from Star Wars Battlefront II’s single player campaign, which puts players in the role of Inferno Squadron leader, Iden Versio, as she goes on a 30 year quest to avenge the Emperor’s death and bring down the New Republic. The new video reveals that Iden is working directly for her father within the Imperial military, and that the Emperor’s creepy messengers have been dispatched to many of the remaining forces who are still loyal to the Empire. We’re getting a very Dementor vibe from the Emperor’s messenger.  It actually seems to threaten Iden when she simply asks about her next target. Perhaps that’s even foreshadowing some tension between Iden and the rest of the Imperial military, if she doesn’t agree with the late Emperor’s plans.

As noted by io9, Operation Cinder has come up before in the new post-Disney continuity. More specifically, it was a major plot point in the Journey to the Force Awakens: Shattered Empire comic book series.

Star Wars: Battlefront II will hit Playstation 4 and Xbox One on November 17.
