Watch a Katana Sword Slice Through Plastic Bottles in Super Slow-Mo

What would you prefer to have access to: a katana sword or a slow motion camera? What would you do if you could have both of them? Probably something just like what these guys did.

This video, posted by YouTube user Taras Kul, is a collection of super slow motion videos of plastic water bottles being sliced by a katana sword. To make the aesthetics even more pleasing, they filled each bottle up with different colored water, creating these exploding rainbows of liquid that accentuate just how finely the sword cuts through the bottles, and also how much energy is unleashed in one swing.

When viewed at normal speed, this fun little sword-swinging set-up just looks like a mess. But when slowed down to 10 thousand frames per second you can see how easily the katana moves. If anything, slow motion gives you a better idea of the force created with a sword this powerful, because it still seems to be moving at a speed that doesn’t seem possible.

It also helps that the video was made by guys with great Russian accents. Russians swinging a katana sword in a driveway, all in slow motion? It’s safe to say this video really has all bases of awesome covered.

That said, I can’t be the only person that gets really nervous at the idea of one of these things being swung in close proximity to other people. I mean, I don’t even like to leave my good knife in the sink, let alone swing it around. At least they wore protective gloves.
