STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Prequel Comic Sends Luke and Leia to Crait

Later this year, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will take fans to new locations as the war between the Resistance and the First Order plays out on the galactic stage. One of these locations is Crait, a mineral planet that may prove to have strategic value for both sides. We learned about the importance of Crait to Leia Organa‘s past in Leia: Princess of Alderaan, and it turns out she revisits the world years later with Luke Skywalker. That story will be told in an upcoming Marvel comic.

This December, writers Ben Acker and Ben Blacker will join forces with artist Mike Mayhew for Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Storms of Crait, a new one-shot that takes place during the original trilogy. Within the comic, Luke and Leia attempt to find a location for the new Rebel Alliance base.  Marvel also released the cover for the first issue by Star Wars: Journey to The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma artist, Marco Checchetto.

Back in April, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson told Entertainment Weekly that Crait is “way out there. It’s uncharted. It’s a mineral planet and so there are mines on it,” he added  there’s “an old Rebel base [on Crait] that’s now abandoned,” which will end up “playing a key role in the movie.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Storms of Crait #1 will be released in comic book stores on Wednesday, December 27, less than two weeks after The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
