Rumor Has it That GRAND THEFT AUTO 6 Is in Development

Two years and a half years ago, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V was released and it was quickly hailed as one of the best games for the current console generation. While Rockstar hasn’t yet announced the inevitable follow up game, a new rumor suggests that Grand Theft Auto 6 is already in the works.

The rumor originated at Tech Radar, which cites an unnamed source who states that GTA 6 is in an early stage of development and a location for the game has yet to be chosen. Nerdist has reached out to Rockstar Games for comment, but no response has been received at this present time.

It seems likely that the next iteration of Grand Theft Auto will once again be set in the United States, especially in light of Tech Radar’s other GTA rumor. Rockstar is said to have had serious plans to make Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo back when the Playstation 2 and the original Xbox were still the primary consoles. The potential GTA: Tokyo game got far enough along that the creative team reportedly went on a trip to Tokyo to gather reference for the game.

So, why haven’t gamers been able to get their drift on in GTA: Tokyo? The report cites an issue with Tokyo’s road system and the sheer number of brands and cars that would need to be changed if a GTA game took place outside of America.

Even if that report is true, we think a GTA: Tokyo game could have been a breath of fresh air for the franchise. If Rockstar ever revisits the idea of an international GTA, the branding issues would remain. But the Playstation 4 and Xbox One have considerably higher capabilities than the PS2 and the original Xbox. That means that any technical limitations that stood in the way of GTA: Tokyo may be a thing of the past.

What do you want to see in GTA 6? Would you be excited to see GTA: Tokyo become a reality? Let us know in the comment section below!
