Long Beach Comic Con: Cosplay Gallery

Long Beach Comic Con is an annual event and each year’s cosplay seems to top the last. Even though this is dubbed the Fall show, the weather never seems to get the hint. In one of the hottest weekends in Southern California with temps soaring into triple digits, cosplayers gained even more respect by braving the heat and carrying on with the show.

The lobby of the Long Beach Convention Center is center stage for cosplay on display and the costumes at this local show are stunning, to the point where you’d think some of these characters walked right off of a movie set. This most likely has to do with the fact that many of these talented fans actually work nearby in the entertainment industry, and certainly don’t hold back when it comes to crafting. Attention to detail is everything, and by the long line at weapons check, you could tell these outfits were camera ready.

Still, some of the best costumes are the simplest, a stand-out being the homemade Galactus with pal Uatu the Watcher. The Galactus body was made out of hot glued felt and, while simple, it clearly captured the Devourer Of Worlds in all his crafty glory. The purse was a nice touch, I suppose that’s where he keeps his leftovers.

You like Deadpool? We got Deadpool. As in over half the cosplayers seemed to be either the Merc With The Mouth himself, or some mashup variation. SoCal culture was big with this con, with one of the aforementioned Deadpools dressed to sell oranges off the freeway, as well as Han Cholo and family who were by far the hit of the show.

Year by year, the cosplayers start to outnumber the plain-clothed and that has a lot to do with social media and meetups. A group put together a S.H.I.E.L.D 50th anniversary cosplay meetup, rounding up all the Agent Carters and Coulsons from around the con floor.
