The success of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Netflix gets us absolutely giddy for a number of reasons. First and foremost, we couldn’t be happier for Jonah Ray‘s success. Beyond that, we’re just realizing how much fun it is to have the crew from the Satellite of Love exist in 2017 and see them experience everything they’ve missed since being off the air. And judging by these videos, it seems that Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot are acclimating quite well to their day-to-day lives at their new digs over at Netflix HQ.
First, they were able to take some time to check out a few Netflix original shows like Ultimate Beastmaster, Narcos, and The OA. They also made use of the in-house hair & makeup services to look their best. Well, “Paint & Polish” is probably a better term.
But, as modern Netflix stars, they know they have responsibilities and set to work finding out what the audiences are saying about them. They quickly learned that the days of physical fan mail are long gone and have since been replaced by YouTube comments with some rather salty language.
They even managed a meeting with Netflix CCOÂ Ted Sarandos and pitched some ideas for new content.
Setting aside how overjoyed we are to have new MST3K episodes, we think these videos might be onto something. There’s a definite charm to these clips that’s reminiscent of things like The Office or The Muppet Show. It probably wouldn’t work as an actual series but, as far as we’re concerned, we’d be fine seeing more Crow and Tom BTS clips or at least some more of the MST3K crew commenting on Netflix originals.
