TRANSFORMERS 5 Has Title, Teases Possible Hasbro Cinematic Universe Crossover

Another day, another shiny new Nerdist News theory! Today we’re looking at the so-new-it’s-not-even-in-production-yet Transformers movie, which just announced its title. (And sadly it’s not Transfivemers like we all hoped.) Paramount announced the title, Transformers 5: The Last Knight, on Instagram, and fans are already chomping at the bit to speculate over what the tiny teaser could possibly mean.

Calling all #Autobots: Optimus Prime is ready for battle. Are you? #transformers

A video posted by Transformers (@transformersmovie) on

The teaser shows a quick shot of a redesigned Optimus Prime from Age of Extinction followed by the brand new title, mysteriously in a brand-spanking-new font. Transformers movies have used the same lettering as the toys in the past, but this is something new, but old at the same time… maybe even medieval?

With a name like “Last Knight”,” it leaves us wondering if Paramount’s hinting at a major crossover. Like maybe it’s the certain “Last Knight” who’s been rumored to be appearing in a major Hasbro toy movie (cough) Rom (cough). That’s right folks, Rom the Spaceknight uses an eerily similar blocky type text to the one we saw in the Instagram teaser. And since Rom was announced already in December as part of Paramount and Allspark Pictures, we’re guessing that all but ties Rom into the Transformers-verse along with G.I. Joe, Micronauts, and, you guessed it, M.A.S.K.!

Our own Luke Thompson pointed out on Forbes Optimus Prime’s “uncharacteristically purple eyes” in the trailer. While traditionally we see Autobots with blue eyes and Decepticons with red, we’re left wondering where the purple comes from. Well, Forbes’ theory is Dire Wraiths, also known as Spaceknight’s arch-enemies in the comics. These guys are shapeshifters engineered by star-faring Celestials who, in their natural state, appear as Prince’s favorite color, purple.
