Felicia Day Joins THE MAGICIANS in Major Role (EXCLUSIVE)

Last time we were in Fillory, things weren’t, uh, looking so great for our favorite millennial magicians: magic had disappeared from the world following Ember and Umber’s death at the hands of Quentin and Co. So what’s a bunch of down-on-their-luck magic-doers supposed to do to try and restore balance to not only Fillory and Earth, but the world? Go on a quest. And every quest needs an information sponge to join the crew and help bring new insights–which is why we here at Nerdist are thrilled to exclusively announce that none other than Felicia Day will be joining the cast of The Magicians in season three as Poppy, a character with which readers of Lev Grossman’s novel series will be very familiar!

And if you don’t want any insight into who, exactly, this Poppy may be–stop reading now. Because we’re going to get into it below. And yes, before you ask: this may include spoilers if you haven’t read the books!

A postgraduate fellow from Brakebills who is discovered in Fillory doing interesting field work as a Dragonologist, Poppy feels destined to help the gang reinstate magic to universe. After all, there’s no way that someone who talks to dragons doesn’t know a thing or two about particularly powerful magic, given that dragons are some of the oldest and most powerful magical beings of all time.

And this first image of her? It’s definitely a major key to what she’s doing next season (see what we did there, book readers?).

If you’re looking at this image and thinking to yourself, ‘Hey, self, I wonder if those keys are a part of bringing magic back?’ you maaaay be onto something there. But given that Sera Gamble and John McNamara have a tendency to flip the content of the book on its head in new and exciting ways, we’re hesitant to speculate any further. Maybe it’s just the key to a dragon chamber!

“I am thrilled to join The Magicians this season,” shared Felicia Day. “The show is one of my favorites, the cast is incredible to work with, and showrunner, Sera Gamble, is one of my Hollywood heroes. I can’t wait for fans to meet Poppy!”

Needless to say, the more cool, fun, badass ladies to join The Magicians fold, the better! What do you think though? Let us know in the comments below and make sure you keep it locked to Nerdist—we were on set this season and have a lot of fun videos coming soon!
