DUCKTALES’ Terrific New Cast Sings the Classic Theme Song

I’m going to admit it. I was a bit dubious when it was announced earlier this year that Disney would be rebooting their classic ’90s adventure series DuckTales, in which race cars, lasers, and aeroplanes all give way to the overarching state of duck blur. The initial concept art didn’t even have Launchpad McQuack in it, which was a real deal-breaker for me. After the second piece of art and a teaser rectified this problem, I got more excited, though cautiously. HOWEVER, after Friday’s cast announcement, I’m not only pleased, I am 100% sold. I WILL be watching this when it airs next year.

Disney is not effing around when it comes to its main cast for this reboot. All these terrific actors got together (via tape, since some of them live outside the country) to sing the show’s iconic theme tune. Who’s in the cast? Well, first and foremost we’ve got the Tenth Doctor himself David Tennant taking over the role of billionaire adventurer Scrooge McDuck. What a great choice! He’s Scottish, and has done plenty of adventuring and globetrotting in his years aboard the TARDIS. The original voice of Uncka Scrooge, Alan Young, passed away in May of this year, sadly.

Joining Tennant are Danny Pudi, Ben Schwartz, and Bobby Moynihan as Huey, Dewey, and Louie, respectively, Beck Bennett as Launchpad, Toks Olagundoye as Mrs. Beakley, and Kate Micucci as Webby Vanderquack. That is some hefty talent, and a cool idea to get so many comedic heavyweights to populate the cast. In the original show, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby were all voiced by actress Russi Taylor, so bringing in different actors with distinctive voices will add a great new layer to the proceedings.

In addition to this core group, fan favorite characters like Donald Duck, Flintheart Glomgold, Gyro Gearloose, Duckworth, Gizmoduck, Magica DeSpell, Gladstone Gander, and Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys will also appear. I for one am stoked to see what a 21st Century Gizmoduck would look like. Fenton Crackshell’s super robot alter ego was always my favorite.
