Sarah Michelle Gellar’s STAR WARS REBELS Role Revealed by Lucasfilm

Back in March, former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar was announced as a new cast member for Star Wars Rebels Season 2. Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze, Jr., was already on the show as Kanan, one of the last surviving Jedi. Because of that connection, the early speculation about Gellar’s role suggested that she would play a new rebel, or even Princess Leia herself. And Gellar certainly played into those rumors in recent post on Instagram.

But today, it was officially announced that Gellar will be playing The Seventh Sister, an Imperial Inquisitor who has been previously glimpsed in the trailers for Star Wars Rebels Season 2.

“I may be number 7, but I am pretty much number 1,” explained Gellar in the video announcement. “My character believes that Ahsoka is back, and she is trying to track down Ahsoka as well as the Rebels and just kill them all.”

Gellar also noted that The Seventh Sister will get to play off of her husband’s character on the show.

“She definitely plays cat and mouse with Kanan. All of the Inquisitors want to mess with Jedi, that’s why we’re put on this Earth…galaxy, I should say.” Gellar added that she “didn’t get to see the design before I went into the booth and I think that’s sometimes actually better because they would record my mannerisms. Because sometimes when I would get into character, I would do certain things with my hands. Then, a couple of weeks later, I would see that in the drawing and they sort of reflect and mirror each other.”

During the video, Gellar expressed her love for both Star Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

“What’s great about [Star Wars Rebels] is it’s a family show. You have these great female characters in Hera and Sabine. They have their own story and their own powers. They’re different, they’re cool, and they fight for good, which of course is ultimately what you want your children to do. I’m now part of the lore and legend of Star Wars and that’s what people dream of. The same way that I still talk about the original movies, that I am now a part of the story of Star Wars. It’s really special!”

Star Wars Rebels Season 2 will resume on Wednesday, October 14 on Disney XD.
