Here Are Some Possible Reasons LUKE CAGE Was Canceled

Before Marvel fans could come down from the highs of Daredevil season three, Netflix surprised everyone by canceling Luke Cage after two seasons. This was on the heels of their cancellation of Iron Fist. Fans thought a third season of Luke Cage was a sure thing. Series star Mike Colter even teased Luke’s upcoming story arc during his convention appearances. What changed? Today’s Nerdist News has theories about why Luke Cage came to an end.

Join guest host Amy Vorpahl as she goes over the details from Deadline‘s initial report. The dreaded “creative differences” was cited as one of the reasons for Luke Cage‘s demise, but it seems like there’s more to it. The writers room for season three was already assembled, and they’ve been working on scripts for the past few months. It’s not clear where Marvel and Netflix disagreed over the direction for the show. However, Deadline‘s report indicates Netflix wanted to implement a shorter ten episode season, as opposed to the 13 episodes that had already been planned.

Disney’s upcoming streaming service could be a factor, but maybe the casts of Luke Cage and Iron Fist could be merged together in a Heroes For Hire series on Netflix or elsewhere. We’d also love to see a Daughters of the Dragon series starring Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. The last two seasons of their respective shows spent a lot of time establishing their friendship, and those heroines deserve the spotlight.
