The PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES Cast Gets Their Slang Braaaains Tested

In the world of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, there’s a lot to know: serious zombie survival skills, how to wield a katana or two, and the basic premise of the Jane Austen classic on which it is based. But such stuff shouldn’t take away from the equally as important knowledge base—the slang of the era.

Which is exactly why we decided to test the cast’s braaaaaaains (Get it? Of course you do? Oh, OK.) on their understanding of a li’l bit of Regency and Victorian era slang. Because it’s one thing to be bricky in the face of the undead, but it’s quite another to get into some collie shangles with a bunch of arfarfan’arfs and not have the perfect comeback to settle the score.

Luckily, the film’s stars—Lily James, Matt Smith, Bella Heathcote, Jack Huston, and Douglas Booth—were more than game for a little bit of fun. (You can tell by their gigglemugs in the GIFs, can’t you?)

Thankfully, whether they were aware of these varied phrases’ meanings or not, there was an overwhelming takeaway from the day for everyone:

Do you have any particular period slang of which you’re fond? Leave ’em in the comments, but don’t sell me a dog or some serious mafficking’s going to go down.
