In just over a week, Capcom will unleash Street Fighter V, the latest installment of the long-running fighting game franchise. Although itâs only the âfifthâ game in the official series, Street Fighter has had numerous iterations over the past 29 years, and the characters have good reasons to beat the crap out of each other.
The newly released Street Fighter V trailer touches upon several classic rivalries, especially in regards to M. Bison, who looks significantly older than he did in previous games. Chun Li, Cammy, and Ken all take their shot at Bison, but the trailer puts the focus on Guileâs old comrade, Charlie Nash, who literally appears to return from the dead. Considering that it was Bison who killed him, Nash has a pretty solid claim on taking him down.
The trailer also offers quick introductions of the new fighters F.A.N.G, Laura, and Rashid. However, itâs Necalli who makes the biggest splash as he challenges Ryu and brings out the dark side of everyoneâs favorite fighter. Necalli even seems to welcome the change in Ryuâs demeanor during their fight, as if this is what he wanted all along.
Street Fighter Alpha veteran Karin is briefly glimpsed getting in a good hit on Birdie, while Zangief and R. Mika seem to be two of the few fighters who get along as they share their best wrestling poses.
Although Street Fighter V is slated to be released on Playstation 4 and Windows/Linux on Tuesday, February 16; Capcom wonât be patching in the full story mode until June. So it may be a few months before some of these rivalries come into focus.
