Capcom Explores STREET FIGHTER V Game Modes in This New Trailer

Capcom’s signature fighting game franchise returns next month with Street Fighter V. But given the numerous iterations of the Street Fighter series, perhaps Street Fighter 19 would be a more accurate title (not counting the crossover games). Street Fighter V will be the first next-gen Street Fighter game, but only for Playstation 4 and PC. Sorry, Xbox One gamers!

Ahead of Street Fighter V’s official release, Capcom has unveiled a new video that explores the games various modes. First up, is the tutorial mode, which puts the player in control of a young Ryu and provides gamers with a more comprehensive approach to learning his moves and mastering his fighting style. This is actually a great addition, and will hopefully include all of the characters, not just Ryu. However, the video only lists Ryu by name for that mode.

Character story mode promises unique storylines for each of the game’s 16 fighters. But if the video preview is an accurate representation of how the storyline will be presented, then it will be a huge disappointment. Instead of animated cutscenes, the video featured still image artwork with voiceovers. C’mon, Capcom, it’s 2016! Modern game companies should be able to handle a few cutscenes!

Street Fighter V‘s survival mode is fairly straightforward. It gives the player a chance to test their skills by attempting to beat CPU opponents under a strict set of parameters. Training mode appears to be a less robust version of the tutorial mode, but it allows players to use any characters for a practice session.

The final two modes deal with Street Fighter V’s online capabilities. There will be crossplatform play between the PC and Playstation 4 through Network Battle and the Capcom Fighters Network.
