One of the most enduring aspects of Arthurian lore is that King Arthur was prophesied to return and save a united Britain in its darkest hour. Whether Arthur actually existed is still a subject of debate, but there is a seven-year old schoolgirl named Matilda Jones who recently pulled a sword out of Dozmary Pool, the legendary resting place of Arthur’s iconic blade, Excalibur.
Via The Daily Mail, Jones stumbled upon the 4-foot-long sword during an outing with her family. According to her father, Paul Jones, he had just finished telling his daughter about the legend of King Arthur right before she made her discovery.
Clearly, Matilda Jones needs to be the true and rightful King of England.
Not Queen.
King. https://t.co/1uGPMAi5Oy

We believe that Monty Python and the Holy Grail said it best:Â “Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!” And it has to be said that Matilda Jones isn’t claiming to have been handed the sword by the Lady in the Lake. But if a mandate from the people is all that is required to rule, we think Jones would probably win more popular support than any politician ever could. She may not be the king we were expecting, but she is our king! Which is exactly what we would say if we were British.
As amazing as it would be if the sword turned out to be a centuries old relic, it may be a more recent addition to the bottom of that lake. Paul Jones theorized that the sword was probably used in a movie filmed on location. For all we know, that replica sword could have been meant to stand in for Excalibur. Either way it’s a great story.
