International THE LAST KNIGHT Trailer Shows the Lighter Side of the Robocalypse

Okay gang, hold on to your butts. There’s a new international trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight, a film that, according to Paramount Pictures’ marketing copy, “shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero.” It’s probably also going to shatter our brains, based on everything we’ve seen so far. I mean, Transformers in King Arthur’s Court? There’s a sight that needs time to process.

Thankfully, this new glimpse of The Last Knight seems to have relaxed on the gritty fatalistic aesthetic that all the previous trailers led with, instead going for a stronger emphasis on humor and the interactions between the human characters. But that doesn’t mean it’s any less wonderfully bizarre (it wouldn’t be a Transformer movies otherwise!) and even in these brief few minutes there are so many exceptional moments to parse.

For example: the opening scene when Mark Wahlberg tells Grimlock to stop eating a car and there’s honest-to-God green goo on it when he spits it out, as if this majestic beast’s internal mechanisms operated the same way as Slimer from Ghostbusters. Excuse me? What is that stuff? Do Transformers have digestive juices? Do they eat other Transformers? What would the technical term for that be — robovores, perhaps? (Please, if there are legitimate answers to these queries, tell them to me. I am on a genuine quest for knowledge.)

Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters on June 21, which is when all of our most burning questions will finally be answered. Well, maybe. We’ll probably just come up with even more questions upon watching it.

Are you psyched to check out this latest installment in the franchise? And if so, is it out of genuine interest in Transformers lore (seriously, no judgement, nothing wrong with loving something) or is it the same morbid fascination that I’m currently feeling? Let’s have an open dialogue in the comments below.
