Marvel Will Unveil a HUGE Captain America Statue at Comic-Con

Back in 1941, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby created Steve Rogers, the patriotic superhero better known as Captain America. 2016 is the 75th anniversary of Captain America, and it’s already been a banner year for the character thanks to the box office success of Captain America: Civil War and the recent twist that is currently playing out in Marvel’s comic books. But now Cap fans will have a much larger reason to celebrate the anniversary!

Via USA Today, Marvel revealed that a 13-foot-tall bronze statue of Captain America will be unveiled at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con before heading out on a nationwide tour. The statue will then be delivered to Prospect Park in Brooklyn on August 10th, where it will remain on permanent display. Judging from the preliminary artwork released by Marvel, it appears that the statue is a recreation of Chris Evans’ Cap from Captain America: The First Avenger.

Captain America Statue rough sketch

As anyone who has seen the Marvel Studios films can attest, Brooklyn is Cap’s hometown (And the quote on the statue comes directly from The First Avenger), plus Simon and Kirby also have New York roots, so it’s fitting that their most popular collaboration is getting this tribute.

While the full size Captain America statue is one-of-a-kind, fans will  have the opportunity to purchase limited-edition recreations that will stand a mere 12-inches in bronze. Only 750 copies of that statue will be made by Comicave Studios, which is also offering a 35-inch pewter version of the Captain America statue that will be limited to 100 copies. We’re willing to bet that both versions will be popular on the collectors’ market!
