CAPTAIN AMERICA Comic Book Twist Gets a Glorious Meme

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Steve Rogers: Captain America #1. Like, the biggest spoiler. Proceed with caution.

Marvel’s newest Captain America comic arrived on Wednesday, and it didn’t slide onto shelves quietly, instead busting onto the scene with a Hulk-sized thud. That’s mainly because the story by writer Nick Spencer and artist Jesus Saiz put the beloved character into a new light. That’s not an easy task with any hero who has a history as lengthy and colorful as Steve Rogers, but they accomplished the feat by making him an agent of the enemy. You heard me. Steve Rogers has been working for Hydra all along, as revealed in this panel:

I know.

I’m not going to tear apart the hows or whys (you can get more information in this post) or to delve into the feelings I have regarding this about face. And yes, I have them. Instead, I’m processing Captain America’s new allegiance by wrapping myself up in the warm and fuzzy blanket that is the resulting humorous meme storm on social media.

The surprising twist with Steve not only made for brand new meme fodder, it reignited the “Hail Hydra” craze that hit after the release of The Winter Soldier. Double memes are as great as double rainbows. Look:
