ASH VS EVIL DEAD Teaser Arrives: Hail to the King, Baby!

I still remember that fateful day: October 31st, 2003. I went into my college town’s Blockbuster (remember those, kids?) and, sight unseen, bought a used copy of Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn. I had no idea what to expect, but I prepared myself for anything. That viewing was when I really fell in love with horror movies, the character of Ash Williams and his chainsaw hand, and of course, actor Bruce Campbell. That was 19-year-old me’s movie awakening (that same weekend, I watched Reservoir Dogs and Swingers for the first time). And while I could play the Evil Dead video games and read the comics and re-watch the movies and go see the surprisingly good remake/follow-up, there really is nothing like the real thing, baby, as the song says.

Hence the excitement over Starz’s new televised adaptation Ash vs Evil Dead. Being touted as a “horror sitcom,” it has become as loud in my mind as a chainsaw fused to someone’s arm. So excited are we that it doesn’t even matter that the teaser that came out on Friday is only 20 seconds long and shows just about nothing–save an awesome image of that selfsame saw being back on Ash’s stump. We don’t even get to see Ash’s face, but all we need is to hear Campbell’s familiar growl and we’re in horror heaven.

There is no release date yet set for the show—other than sometime in the Fall—but with Campbell, Sam Raimi, and Rob Tapert behind the series, and Raimi directing the pilot, we can coast on the belief that it’ll be great for a few more months.

Are you as stoked as we are about this new series? Can you hear puttering chainsaws in your dreams (in a good way)? Let us know below!
