This Sunday, The Walking Dead returns. The anticipation is palpable, like you can taste it… and it tastes like Carolâs cookies. Youâd be surprised to find out that The Walking Dead and food go hand in hand, and I donât mean flesh-eating biters. Food is a big part of major storylines and makes for some of the most memorable scenes. Bobâs Footloaf, anyone?
Food is the New Rock is a podcast that discusses food and music with musicians and folks in the culinary world. Appropriately, this weekâs show was a The Walking Dead Food Special and the guest was the talented singer/songwriter/actress Emily Kinney, who played Beth on the show. Kinneyâs new album This Is War even features a food titled song called âBirthday Cake.”
Host Zach Brooks is known in the food community for his bi-coastal blog MidtownLunch and he and guest host Jeff Miller talked with Kinney about her vegetarianism and coffee obsession. In fact, the first ten minutes of the podcast was dedicated to Nitro cold brews and coffee horchata, staples of LA coffee culture.
The meat of the special, so to speak, was counting down the Top 10 Best Food Moments in The Walking Dead. Now we all have our favorites; from farming to pudding to, gulp, Terminus cannibals. Where do they all land on the top ten? I wonât spoil it except to say youâll get a âkickâ out of number one. Ok fine, Bobâs foot is always one step ahead. Darn it! I better tread lightly. Oh manâ¦
Warning: If youâre not caught up on The Walking Dead the podcast contains massive spoilers. Food is the New Rock is available for download on iTunes.
