Empire Magazine Reveals Exclusive FORCE AWAKENS Covers

As the last full week of November winds down and we creep ever closer to December, we must prepare for the onslaught of eleventh-hour marketing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Though many of us wish we could avoid spoilers and new images, sometimes the new stuff just looks damn cool. Luckily for us, Empire Magazine has a series of six collectible covers for their most recent issue just in time for the marketing blitz. The covers depict some of the big players from the upcoming film, including Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren, and a character we are MOST intrigued by: Captain Phasma.

While the existence of Gwendoline Christie’s chrome-plated trooper has never been a secret, that description is about all anyone knows about the character. The more Phasma is featured alongside the presumed “main” characters, the more we wonder if she’s going to end up being more integral to the plot than we know. On the other hand, she may be more of a menacing side character, similar to Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back.

The absence of Luke Skywalker from these covers should come as no surprise to anyone, but the lack of Carrie Fisher’s Leia Organa is a little surprising. Whether that hints at her prominence in the film isn’t clear since Leia was featured in the last theatrical trailer for the film, the one sheet poster, and her own character poster. Ultimately, time will tell if any of this speculation amounts to much at all when the film finally releases on December 18. (We suspect it will not, but it’s fun in the meantime, right?)

Check out some of the covers in the gallery below, head over to Empire to see the rest, and let us know some of your speculations in the comments below!
