DARKWING DUCK Returns to Comics

He is the terror that flaps in the night…and he’ll be returning very soon! Disney’s Darkwing Duck is getting a full-fledged comeback starting later this year: Joe Books is publishing a new Darkwing Duck ongoing comic book series which is expected to debut in April.

The creative team for Darkwing Duck will be writer Aaron Sparrow and artist James Silvani, both of whom worked on the previous Darkwing Duck comic book that was published by Boom! Studios in 2011. Andrew Dalhouse, Deron Bennett and Jesse Post will also be on the Darkwing Duck creative team.

(We wonder if this will coincide with the DuckTales animated series reboot that we reported on back in February of last year. Hey: maybe that April Fools joke about a Darkwing Duck animated series was more of a prediction of the future than a ruse.)

After all, the original Darkwing Duck animated series debuted in 1991 as a spinoff series from DuckTales. The series was created by animation veteran Tad Stones, who envisioned Darkwing Duck as a parody of Batman and several classic pulp heroes, including the Shadow, the Sandman, Doc Savage, and the Lone Ranger. The only character from Ducktales who had a leading role on Darkwing Duck was Launchpad McQuack, Darkwing Duck’s pilot and sidekick. Rounding out the heroic trio was Darkwing Duck’s young daughter, Gosalyn.
