Check out These Gloriously Intricate Sculptures Made from Money

While we could easily write an article in which we continually reference to celebrity chef-and chipotle ranch dressing baron-Guy Fieri and his “That’s money” catchphrase, we thought we’d go another route with this one.

The effect art can have on an individual is probably one of the most personal things one can ever experience. What we feel or take when faced with artistic works just might be the purest form of identity each of us have. What you glean from this gallery of Justine Smith‘s sculptures made from paper money is entirely unique, but we probably can all agree that these are pretty amazing works of art.

Smith’s website makes mention that “on a physical level a banknote is just a piece of paper, but it is what a banknote actually represents that is central to Smith’s work.”

The likely takeaway from these is that money symbolizes much more than just currency. The depictions of weaponry evoke the cost and, for some, profits of war. The flowers and trees she’s created bring to mind that it can be integral to new life (or decay) and is a part of a constantly changing system. The circle of dogs pitted against each other- all made with individual currency-may symbolize economic and geopolitical tension between nations. Or maybe, at the end of the day, it’s just all just really neat to look at. After all, art is what you want it to be.

Take a look at the gallery below and let us know what you think-and more importantly how you feel- about Smith’s work in the comments below!
