Could You Really Slice Bullets Like Deadpool?

If Deadpool had a signature move that wasn’t a fourth wall break or raunchy quip, it might be using his katana to slice bullets in half in order to deflect them away from his body. When he does so, it immediately lets you know just how skilled Wade Wilson must be, but can you slice bullets in half, and would you even want to?

In my latest episode of Because Science, I’m sharpening my sword and trying to figure out if slicing bullets in twain is a viable tactic, at least when you have comic book-level super strength and speed. What it comes down to is angles–if the halves of the bullet ideally follow the cutting angle of the blade, is that angle wide enough to push the fragments away from your body? If that angle is too shallow, or if there isn’t any real cutting implement with the required angle, then slicing a bullet in half is almost as dangerous as simply letting the bullet hit you.
