Look, we love our families oh so very much, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need an escape every now and then, especially on a long Easter weekend together with them. Once the kids have found all the eggs, all the food has been served, and it’s time to retreat to a warm corner and decompress, pull out our laptop and rock along to your Easter Bandcamping soundtrack with us, consisting of our favorite albums that dropped on Bandcamp this week.
5. Built Of Nothings by thenoisebeforewesleep
Genre: indie rock, electronic, shoegaze
If you like: Stereophonics, Nine Inch Nails
This record is apparently a greatest hits compilation by thenoisebeforewesleep, but hey, it’s new to us. The vibe alternates between more sinister indie rock and cheery upbeat compositions. If this is truly representative of thenoisebeforewesleep’s discography, then perhaps they deserve more attention.
4. RUN by Eliza Shaddad
Genre: indie rock
If you like: Warpaint, Wye Oak
There’s been a trend in recent years of brooding, atmospheric, female-fronted indie rock led by bands like Warpaint and Wye Oak, and we’re happy it exists. The natural airiness of the female voice lends itself to the dark backdrop atop which it lays, and Eliza Shaddad is another beautiful gear in this machine that hopefully keeps turning for a while.
3. Menos es Más by Manager Capitalista
Genre: indie rock, garage rock
If you like: Manchester Orchestra, Car Seat Headrest,
This album might not be worth the $100 asking price… yes, it’s genuinely selling for $100. Well, probably not selling, which is a bummer because this Argentinian indie rock record is enchantingly rough around the edges and a totally serviceable listen. Definitely not worth a hundred dollars, but you could just listen to it here or on the band’s Bandcamp page.
2. Dark Matter EP by Wyldest
Genre: dream pop, indie rock
If you like: The xx, Haim, Lana Del Rey
Wyldest’s new EP is an indie-leaning but slightly “out there” affair, equal parts Haim and Deerhunter. There’s plenty of sonic experimentation, but it’s all grounded in traditional and catchy pop standards. It’s a fun record suitable for both introspection and dancing, so we guess maybe dancing in your room with your headphones plugged in would make sense?
1. The Glory Forever by Wild Wing
Genre: indie rock, punk
If you like: Parquet Courts, The Men
The preceding albums were the calm before this punk storm. It’s got the vivacity of early White Stripes with the contemporary punk energy of The Men. It’s so easy to do punk wrong, but that’s nowhere near an issue here.
