“Autobots, roll out!”

Transformers fans will probably hear the dulcet tones of Peter Cullen’s voice when they witness this epic LEGO Optimus Prime. And this is one of the most impressive custom LEGO builds that we’ve ever seen, because it actually transforms into Optimus Prime’s robot form!

The transforming Optimus Prime LEGO build was the creation of Ralph S., a man who calls himself MadPhysicist on Flickr. Ralph S. is an actual physicist who loves to construct amazingly complex LEGO builds in his spare time. He’s really outdone himself this time with a LEGO Optimus Prime that towers over the actual Optimus Prime toy!

Prime’s robot form is equally impressive. The level of detail on Optimus’ body is really breathtaking.

To prove that his LEGO Optimus Prime can actually transform, MadPhysicist also posted a time lapse video of Optimus’ truck form turning into the robot that we know and love.

He also wrote the accompanying text for the time lapse video. “The answer to the question whether I am a big fraud who has built two models or is this one model that can actually transform? The last step is rather large. With lots of things happening at the same time. Unfortunately that is unavoidable; the model simply won’t balance properly in any of the intermediate stages. I have to support it with one hand and then manipulate everything with the other.”
