LEGO AVENGERS Trailer Reveals Unexpected Playable Characters

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may not have had a panel full of juicy interviews and trailer reveals at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, but that does not mean we were left bereft of big Marvel news. LEGO released images from the forthcoming LEGO Avengers video game, and there are some amazing playable minifigs lined up for the game’s roster.

Stan Lee, creator of a large chunk of the classic Marvel heroes, has appeared in cameo roles in nearly every Marvel film ever made, and barring any sort of galactic catastrophe, he can be expected to moonlight in a few more. For the first time, Lee is getting his due as a couple of playable characters. “Iron Stan” and the “Stanbuster” are two unlockable characters coming to LEGO Avengers, and they’re obviously modeled after Iron Man’s wearable tech. Avengers: Age of Ultron finally brought the Hulkbuster (also playable in the game) to life from the page to the big screen, and LEGO is specially modding the super suit for Stan’s inclusion.

Some of Marvel’s newer stars of the comic book universe are crossing over into the LEGO game as well: America Chavez, a.k.a. Miss America, will be a playable character alongside of “all-new, all-different” Captain America, Sam Wilson! The Avengers lineup changes occasionally in the books, and following the events of Secret Wars, Sam Wilson steps into Steve Rogers’ role as team leader.

Crossbones, who has yet to make his costumed debut on screen — he foolishly attacked Cap in Winter Soldier before adopting the skeletal alter ego — will be playable as well. We’re officially halfway through the announced Avengers film series, with Infinity War Part I and Part II being split into two movies so whichever MCU characters that don’t appear in the game are likely to be seen in the next iteration.

We’re sure that the full roster will be full of more fun surprises like these, which you can peruse in our complete gallery below.

Who else do you want to see in the line-up? Sound off in the comments!
