ZOOTOPIA’s Newscasters Are Different Animals in Different Countries of Release

Disney‘s latest animated film Zootopia has been breaking records left and right. It opened this weekend with $73.7 million in domestic box office sales (breaking even juggernaut Frozen‘s domestic opening weekend record of $67.4 million), and has so far earned $233.9 million worldwide. And in each of the many countries that contributed to this international success, fans can see something different—just look at the film’s newscasters.

Different versions of Zootopia released internationally feature different animals playing anchors on the film’s news channel ZNN. In the U.S., Canada and France, you’ll see a moose named Peter Moosebridge, voiced by famous Canadian CBC chief news anchor Peter Mansbridge. In the United Kingdom, the moose is replaced by a corgi—famously, the dog of choice of the Queen of England. Japan has a tanuki, a Japanese racoon dog (yes, you should absolutely Google pictures of them). Australia and New Zealand have a koala, voiced by Australian singer David Campbell. And China has a panda. Check out some of the pics below.

We also learned from Twitter that Brazil has a jaguar voiced by journalist Ricardo Boechat.

Things are changed for international release all the time—especially elements that relate to cultural references. For instance, in Inside Out, a young Riley is fed green bell peppers in China instead of the broccoli we saw in America, as peppers are China’s kiddy “ick” food.

We’ve got pics of all of them, thanks to Ryshat’s Corner on Twitter. Well, all except the corgi, which hasn’t been spotted online at the time of this writing. Have you guys seen Zootopia yet?
