Will THE DEFENDERS Appear in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR?

It’s Mighty Marvel Monday here at Movie Morsels! Yup, we’re full to bursting with news on the most successful superhero movies in Hollywood today, including some intriguing tidbits about The Defenders possibly sharing the big screen with the Avengers. (Wha?) Plus, the the latest on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Doctor Strange, and Hugh Jackman’s last snikt as Wolverine in Logan. Read on, true believer…

Avengers: Infinity War

Hey kids! How much action, adventure, and excitement are ya looking for?! So began Stan Lee’s breathless introduction to TV’s Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends every Saturday morning when I was a kid. But it’s doubtful even ol’ Stan is prepared for the amount of action we’re expecting from Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War. At last count the film was said by the directors to feature 67 characters, but we may yet see four more superheroes added to that number before all is said and done…

In a new interview with IGN, Feige said of Avengers: Infinity War and the yet-untitled Avengers 4, “The fun about those two movies that we’re doing essentially at the same time is everybody’s there.” When IGN asked Feige if “everybody” included Netflix’s Defenders, the studio chief’s only reply was “Spoilers!” Hmmm…

Doctor Strange

Speaking of The Defenders, did you know that Stephen Strange was a founding member of the team in its original 1970s comic book incarnation? Of course the Sorcerer Supreme won’t be a member when he makes his big-screen debut in a few short weeks, but there’s another link between the Doctor Strange movie and Marvel’s Netflix shows on the horizon. Rosario Dawson’s TV character Claire Temple was originally intended to be the heroic Night Nurse, but showrunner Steven DeKnight was told Marvel had other plans for Night Nurse “down the road.” Now fans are wondering if Rachel McAdams’ Strange character Christine Palmer, an emergency room doctor in the film, could somehow be the popular character.

Feige once more stepped in to address the issue: “I will say that that story line does not play into the movie,” he told Entertainment Weekly. Regarding potential future plans for Night Nurse, he teased, “It’s just as much fun for us as it is for the fans to speculate about that.”

McAdams herself would only remark, “Mum’s the word on that one.”

Spider-Man: Homecoming

In other Marvel news, Tom Holland had a few words to say about the follow-up to Spider-Man: Homecoming while discussing The Lost City of Z at New York Film Fest: “My next project, I can’t tell you about, but we’ve just finished Spider-Man and we’re talking about the second one and who the villain is going to be and where we’re going.” As for whether he’ll be in Avengers: Infinity War, Holland said, “It’s all up in the air. I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is.”

Logan

Want to see another cryptic black-and-white photo from the set of Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine film? The Aussie icon is happy to oblige, bub! Jackman tweeted the following image this weekend…

As best can be determined, the word “sunseeker” refers to the make of the boat in the newspaper clipping attached to the sun visor in the above image. Any guesses as what Wolvie wants with a boat in his later years?

Jurassic World 2

Jurassic-World-Review-061015

Okay, here’s a piece of non-Marvel news for you, just to keep you on your toes today. A Monster Calls director Juan Antonio Bayona is already talking about his next project, a little indie something called Jurassic World 2. As has now become standard protocol when talking about any big-budget sequel, Bayona compares his dino debut to The Empire Strikes Back

“It will be darker and scarier then the previous film… Obviously when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker. It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark as in The Empire Strikes Back or The Wrath of Khan, which are the examples you always get… The film takes the story where it has never been before. To me, it surprised me. We are going to places where the saga has never been before, and at the same time we are paying tribute to the franchise. We will take it a step further… There are things that will happen that people are not expecting and they really are shocking.”

The Escape

Finally today, BMW Films has released the second trailer for its short film, The Escape, which sees Clive Owen returning to his role of the mysterious “Driver”, which he played for BMW oh so long ago. But just in case Owen alone doesn’t do it for you, the company’s latest short, directed by Neill Blomkamp, offers a heavy supply of star power in the form of Dakota Fanning, Jon Bernthal, and Vera Farmiga. As was the case BMW’s earlier efforts, the trailer for The Escape makes it look like a full-length action thriller. But you can see it free when it lands online on October 23rd…
