Full disclosure: I have yet to play Pokémon GO, but I did love Pokémon when I was a child. I’m admittedly scared of the black hole I might fall into. I know I would be just like everybody else out there: totally enveloped, running around, and putting this virtual reality ahead of my actual life. If this describes you, please take a water break from searching for the latest Lapras on the loose in your neighborhood and consider the possibility of being about to play Pokémon without neglecting the real world. What I’m saying is, imagine what our world would be like if Pokémon really became a part of it. Let me explain.

I was just thinking about 5-year-old me dressed up as Pikachu for Halloween, not knowing that Pokémon would reemerge into my life in my early 20s, and then the question dawned on me: How do Pokémon GO and these characters I used to spend hours playing with after school relate to the pop culture I enjoy today? What if some of the people who dominate our entertainment landscape on a regular basis teamed up with the majority of America’s entertainment of choice right now? In short, who would some of our world’s most popular people be if they were Pokémon?
