Watch: The First Donut in Space

Well, hey there, little buddy! Where are you headed? What’s that, you say? Space??

Yes, that’s right. That delectable looking donut has done what most of us can only dream of: go to space. Some creative folks in Askim, Norway sent the breakfast treat into space using a weather balloon, and the result is nothing short of magical. In the video (watch it above), the pink-sprinkled pastry drifts up, above the clouds, to a majestic perch overlooking our fair planet. And as it looks down at the sea, the earth, and the sky, the glazed treat thinks to itself, “One small step for donut, one giant leap for donut-kind.” (Or I don’t know, it thinks nothing because it’s a donut and I just want to eat it.)

The silly Norwegians Swedes who pulled this off said this of the video:

On the 9 April 2015 we sent a Donut to the edge of space (32km up) with a weather balloon, from Askim Norway.
We spent many months planning this, and we are happy with the outcome of this project.
For your own safety do not inhale helium it is a very dangerous thing to do and could be deadly
We had permission do this, do not try to do this without a permit.
We are not from Norway, we are from Sweden 🙂

Thank you, brilliant Swedes, for sending the first donut to space. (Although, IS it the first? Are you telling me not a single astronaut has figured out how to smuggle donuts onto a spaceship? That just seems wrong.)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have somewhere to be. (Hint: It’s Krispy Kreme. In space.)
