Watch Neil deGrasse Tyson Talk About the Science of THE GOOD DINOSAUR

Neil deGrasse Tyson continues to charm and educate at all the same time. This time, the subject of his explanation is not a misguided or undereducated politician or talking head, but the upcoming, sure to be wildly popular, Pixar film The Good Dinosaur. Take a second and watch the short clip above. (Don’t worry, we’ll wait.)

So, were it not for that pesky gigantic life-obliterating astroid, there are circumstances wherein dinosaurs and mammals could have coexisted—which is pretty cool. I appreciate deGrasse Tyson’s honesty about the situation though. Because if dinosaurs had lived while humans developed simultaneously,we would have probably died (because, y’know: they’re dinosaurs). Does this mean Jurassic Park is an inevitability if we mess with fossilized DNA? Perhaps one of the best things to come out of this video is listening to Neil deGrasse Tyson refer to humans as basically rodents. Because if there was a predator like dinosaurs around that is literally all we would be. I love it.

The Good Dinosaur hits theaters on Wednesday, so you can get all your feel good moments in before you’re relegated to the kids table on Thursday. The plot summaries read like a friendship meet-cute between dinosaur and boy, and while I’m hoping nothing happens to any parental figures (because another generation does not need another Bambi or The Land Before Time situation to scar them with), even the previews feel like the kind of thing that kids will be referencing and reminiscing about in the future. Because who doesn’t love a feel-good story about a dinosaur and his tiny human friend?

Has Neil deGrasse Tyson made you even more eager to see The Good Dinosaur? Tell me what you think of his science in the comments below.
