Who would have thought that when those damn, dirty apes at Fox launched a reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise in 2011, there wasn’t a primate around who thought it was going to end up being one of the best films of its year, and that three years later we’d be anxiously waiting for the release of its sequel, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. What’s really cool about the upcoming film is how far removed it seems from its predecessor. The world as it was is gone, and what remains is a post-apocalyptic setting that can stand with the best of them. The fact that it all comes out of a single credit sequence is fascinating, and that’s what we want you to think about as you take in this brand new TV spot the studio just released for the film.

Yeah, it’s that kind of dialogue that gets our blood pumping. How do you fight an enemy that doesn’t require any of the creature comforts you have? How do you fight an enemy that can be anywhere at any time while still being in their element? This is the kind of post-apocalyptic movie our parents would tell us about when we were little. If ever there was a sequel that appeared to meet the expectations set forth by its initiator, this is it.
