TV-CAP: Marvel’s IRON FIST Casts Two More Main Characters

Welcome back to TV-Cap, your guide to the latest TV news! To get you through your Tuesday morning, we’ve got the word of two major additions to the Iron Fist series on Netflix, the return of The Twilight Zone, some spoilery Game of Thrones news, as well as a Gold Rush television series with Kurt Russell, Kate Hudson, and Mel Gibson!

But that’s not all we’ve got for you! Naomi Watts is headlining a Netflix drama series called Gypsy, IFC has a new comedy/horror series, and Walton Goggins landed a starring role in History’s new Seal Team Six inspired drama.

TV-Cap begins now!

The family that slays together, stays together. Last week, Marvel’s Iron Fist cast David Wenham as Harold Meachum, on of the primary adversaries of Finn Jones’ Danny Rand/Iron Fist. Yesterday, Jessica Stroup (90210) signed on to play Meachum’s daughter, Joy; while Banshee veteran Tom Pelphrey will play her onscreen brother, Ward Meachum.

In the Iron Fist comics, Ward was originally Joy’s uncle and a brother to Harold Meachum. Ward and Joy were also Iron Fist’s enemies and business rivals of Danny Rand. For the Iron Fist live-action series, both Ward and Joy knew Danny when he was a child, and his return disrupts their positions within Rand Industries, the company built by their respective fathers. A fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. After 14 years, a new incarnation of The Twilight Zone is happening on CBS. BioShock creator Ken Levine is onboard to write and direct the first episode of The Twilight Zone’s new series, which will feature an interactive element that allows viewers to affect the narrative. Rise from your grave. We expect that certain characters from Game of Thrones won’t be dead for very long this season. This could be a big spoiler, (BE WARNED) so we won’t hold it against you if you skip to the next item. ——— Rumor has it that Paul Kaye is reprising his role as Thoros of Myr, the only man we’ve ever seen with the power to bring back the dead on Game of Thrones. Does this mean that Lady Stoneheart will finally appear on the series?

Nerdist News also shared an intriguing theory about Jon Snow’s future. [Nerdist]

San Francisco Gold Rush. The Mark Gordon Company’s new TV series The Barbary Coast has lined up Kate Hudson and Kurt Russell in starring roles, with Mel Gibson set to play a recurring role on the series in addition to co-writing and directing the show. That’s a really impressive cast! The Barbary Coast doesn’t appear to have a U.S. network yet, but it will be set during the Gold Rush of 1849 while exploring the dark history of San Francisco. [Deadline]

Netflix strikes again. Netflix is already looking ahead to its 2017 series, with a new psychological thriller called Gypsy. Naomi Watts will executive produce the ten episode first season of Gypsy, and star as Jean Holloway, “a therapist who begins to develop dangerous and intimate relationships with the people in her patients’ lives.” Fifty Shades of Grey helmer Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the first two episodes of Gypsy, which will debut next year. [ComingSoon]

Take a Stan. Former Scrubs star John C. McGinley is going to take a Stan Against Evil in IFC’s newest horror/comedy series created by Dana Gould. McGinley will play Stanley Miller, a recently demoted Sheriff in New England who forms a reluctant alliance with his successor, Evie Barret (Janet Varney) when she reveals that their small town is under siege from demons. The first season of Stan Against Evil will be eight episodes, and it is expected to premiere this fall. [Deadline]

Walton Goggins has your Six. True Blood veteran Joe Manganiello has pulled out of History’s new modern military drama, Six over health issues. Justified star Walton Goggins has already been lined up to take over Manganiello’s role as Rip Taggart, the former leader of Seal Team Six whose final mission against the Taliban went bad after he discovered an American working with the terrorists. Manganiello filmed two episodes of Six, which means that some significant reshoots with Goggins will be necessary. [Deadline]
