Titan Announces New PENNY DREADFUL Comic Book Series for 2016

In the span of just two seasons, John Logan’s Victorian horror series Penny Dreadful has become one of the breakout hits on Showtime. The series has gained a huge following of devoted fans who love the gothic, moody atmosphere, and stellar performances from the cast, which features actors like Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Timothy Dalton and Josh Hartnett. Now, UK publisher Titan has announced they are bringing the world of Penny Dreadful to comics.

Titan has acquired quite a few high-profile licenses to various beloved genre properties over the last few years. They currently publish four different Doctor Who series, as well as books based on NBC’s Heroes Reborn and The Blacklist. The first installment in the Penny Dreadful series show is currently scheduled for a spring 2016 release—probably around the time the third season premieres on Showtime. The new comic series is going to have deep ties to the creative team from the show, as it is set to be written by Penny Dreadful scriptwriters Chris King, Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and Andrew Hinderaker. Art for the series will come from Heavy Metal artist Louie De Martinis.

In a statement to the The Hollywood Reporter, Titan editor Lizzie Kaye said, “this incredibly exciting new comic series is going to captivate fans of horror, literature, and Penny Dreadful alike, giving them a whole new insight into the lives of the fascinating, even bewitching, characters.”

The second season finale left the cast of characters all in very unique circumstances, so it will be interesting to see where in the timeline of the show this new comic series will take place in. Are you excited to see Vanessa Ives, Sir Malcolm Murray and Victor Frankenstein come to comics?
