This ALIEN: COVENANT Animation is so Flipping Cool

We’re just days away from the latest installment in the Alien franchise and there’s not much room left of on the edge of our seats for us to sit on. Alien: Covenant looks promising in terms of revisiting the world previous films have made, and we cannot wait to see what mayhem lies ahead. Even though the trailers give us so much to look at, we still can’t seem to fill that Xenomorph-shaped hole in our chests for anything Alien related. That’s probably why we’re absolutely enamored with this flip book animation for the film.

The video was created by artist Serene Teh and brought to our attention via a recent article on io9. In its short 30 seconds, we’re shown the life cycle of a Xenomorph from all the chest-bursty glory of infancy to the inevitable terror that is their (we’re guessing) teenage years. We just figure the queen in Aliens—while incredibly fearsome—was a bit more calm and collected in her rampage; not as jumpy as the majority of dang duct-crawling Xenomorph kids running around with no respect for adults on every crew’s proverbial space lawn!

The animation obviously has some help in terms of video editing and its terror is heightened by some music, but the stop-motion aspects of it really seem to work for the subject matter. The slight changes in juxtaposition of each image in the series provides a visual staccato that’s reminiscent of the irregular strobing of lights that seem to happen in every single Alien-related film. Basically, this animation really suits the subject matter.

What do you think of the flip book? Are you excited for Alien: Covenant? Let’s discuss in the comments below.
