There’s a Secret AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season in the Works

Secrets secrets are no fun, especially when they involve a season of American Horror Story, because we want to know everything about it! Much like the meaning of aliens in American Horror Story: Asylum, some things remain a mystery—but not talk of another season of the fan-favorite anthology series (that wouldn’t be its seventh installment) that co-creator Ryan Murphy is already working on with a single writer from his team. While this is all very exciting for us as fans, we can’t help but wonder: if you talk about it, is it really all that much of secret, Ryan Murphy?

The Murph dropped this tasty tidbit to Entertainment Weekly on Friday, explaining that he and one other writer—an unprecedented move in the AHS-iverse—are working on a “secret season” that’s been in the works for two years. Though he claims they’ll “continue to work on the sly and not tell anybody,” we can’t help but feel like, well, he kinda/sorta let the cat out of the bag!

The biggest difference about this mystery installment is the workflow structure, as Murphy has “one person writing all the episodes.” While Murphy explained that he doesn’t “know if it’s going to work,” they’re at least trying it out, and may potentially shoot the episodes without telling anyone.

“We might get them done and shoot them on the sly and drop it,” Murphy added. Given how the music industry operates these days (and Louis CK’s Horace and Pete), this strategy feels very much in line with Murphy’s brand. Like this season of AHS, which so far seems to revolve around a single place/situation/set of events, we’re hoping it also focuses on a single situation, as that’s when his work is the strongest.

What do you think the secret season might be about? Sleuth it out in the comments below.
