THE SHINING’s Overlook Hotel Becomes a Gingerbread Nightmare

It’s a holiday tradition to celebrate the season by building gingerbread houses full of gumdrops and sweet Christmas tidings. Fortunately for those of us who need a break from all the cheer and good will, someone decided to celebrate an iconic horror movie instead, resulting in a gingerbread tribute to the Overlook Hotel from The Shining.

This massive, incredibly detailed creation is the work of Imgur user agkeeling. The building is almost four feet long, and is made entirely of gingerbread, icing, fondant, candy, Rice Krispies Treats, and other edibles. The walls are covered with fondant and icing, and that’s quinoa and powdered sugar on the roof. However, the coolest part might be the windows, which were made from melted jolly ranchers. Another highlight is the wallpaper, which was printed on edible paper.

Just building a replica of the Overlook’s exterior, hotel and hedge maze included, would be a great feat on its own. However, this thing is way more intricate than that. The model contains five memorable scenes from the movie, and the result is the most adorable variant on the Christmas tradition of sculpting haunted hotels complete with axe-wielding maniacs trying to kill their families.

There are the world’s creepiest twins.

It also includes the famous bathroom door scene with Jack and Wendy Torrance.

Oh, and don’t worry, Room 237 is accounted for.

Oh, it gets much creepier than just that.

Can’t have a haunted gingerbread ballroom without gingerbread ghosts.

As if this thing wasn’t already great, it even includes the elevators full of blood, in motion.

And finally, it would be criminal not to have Jack get a coating of icing.

Make sure you head over to check out even more photos, because this is too impressive and awesome not to.
