The Russo Brothers Are Adapting DEADLY CLASS for TV

Great news for lovers of awesome comic books being turned into television shows: Deadline is reporting that the Rick Remender and Wes Craig series Deadly Class is coming to the TVs everywhere, and it’s being developed by the super duo known as The Russo Brothers. Fans of the comic know it’s one of the best books out there—a bloody, violent series about growing up and fitting in while attending a secret school of assassins. It’s a gut-wrenching book that plays with your emotions and often keeps you on the edge of your seat, with its breakneck action sequences and over-the-top brutality. It’s simply wonderful and absolutely perfect for TV.

Set in the late ’80s, Deadly Class is, at times, essentially a high school drama. It’s about cliques, teenage love, and finding that place where you belong. Of course, like we said early, it also happens to take place at a school for assassins, so cliques quickly become murderous, warring gangs or teenagers that battle with swords and guns in the alleys of San Francisco. It’s grounded, but never afraid to be strange and shockingly vicious.

A big part of the comic’s appeal is the glorious artwork from Wes Craig and colors from Lee Loughridge. Deadly Class has a look and feel unlike nay other comic on the stands, we can only hope that the Russos and showrunner Adam Targum will work to capture that in the television series. From the 1908s backdrop to the bright, intensity of the action scenes, Deadly Class is a constant visual fest. If you have not read this comic, do yourself a favor and do it now before it become the biggest show on TV. Be the hip kid who knows the source material better than your friends.

The show has not officially entered production yet, but Sony Pictures TV is setting the wheels in motion and apparently they’ll be shopping this bad boy around soon. Figures are crossed for a streaming service so we can binge watch the hell out of Marcus and his pals quest for acceptance and survival in a world that’s out to destroy them.
