THE FORCE AWAKENS Gets Three Retro Posters in Style of A NEW HOPE

A long time ago, in a movie theater far, far away…

The first Star Wars film was released in 1977, and here we are almost four decades later preparing for the next installment in the franchise, a testament to the lasting impact to the world and characters that George Lucas created. So, it is only fitting that Disney and Lucasfilm are paying tribute to that watershed cinematic experience with some retro-style posters for The Force Awakens.

The three new posters are based on original posters from 1977, and are just made up of text. While lacking in visuals and any hint at the world the film would be taking place in, it is easy to see how these types of minimalist posters could entice the more curious of movie-watchers, especially children.

Even knowing what the poster is talking about, one tag really stands out as compelling and worthy of investing in: “The force is calling to you. Just let it in.” (Yes, yes, I certainly can come up with the same jokes as you, but let’s keep this civilized, okay?)

Another element that has never lost it’s power is that opening line. “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…”

The Force Awakens (which at this point feels like it has completely lost it’s “Episode VII” component) opens December 18. I wonder how many decades from now someone will be writing about retro posters in the style of this movie.

What do you think of these new posters? These are the comments section you are looking for.
