The DAREDEVIL VFX Reel is Six Minutes of Awesome

I am not sure how much more I can really rave about how amazing I think Marvel’s Netflix series Daredevil is, but I then things like this VFX video come along. Check out the video below and let the CEO of Shade VFX, Bryan Godwin, as well as his Vice President David Van Dyke take you on a journey of blood, blades, explosion, and CGI Daredevils.

The kyoketsu-shoge wasn’t even real?! Damn! The work that Godwin and his crew over at Shade have done on Daredevil is nothing less than magnificent. There is plenty in the series that one could see was done with visual effects, such as the dude who impales his own head on a rusty bit of pipe, or the other dude he beat to death with a bowling ball. (Yes, this is a Marvel property. Godwin makes mention of the highly mature and violent aesthetic of the show, and the fact that it was a major departure for Marvel.)

It is interesting to see how much Marvel used Shade and their VFX work on aspects of the show that came off quite realistic. The Red Ninja fight that I was just flipping out about was one, as was the 3D-scanned version of Daredevil that was needed for his escape from the Brooklyn warehouse. I have always said using VFX to improve on pieces that already exist and push a story forward is better than films that rely on the VFX to build the story for them. I for one am glad it was Shade that worked on this show.
