The Collection: Capture Creatures, Skyrim Commercials, and Lots Of “Get Lucky”

Collection615x250Hey, it’s Memorial Day and I’m way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, WAY overdue to post some more stuff that didn’t fit anyplace else from The Collection, so here’s a holiday edition for you, because why not:

First, an alert for something coming up here in the L.A. area but with something for the rest o’ you, too: You might recall comic creators Becky Dreistadt and Frank Gibson from their appearance on The Mutant Season talking about their comic Tiny Kitten Teeth. What they’re up to now is summed up by this line from their press release announcing an upcoming gallery show: “Becky loves Pokemon. There were 151 original Pokemon. So she made her own.” How awesome is THAT?

Yes, Becky created Capture Creatures, a painting series of 151 Pokemon-inspired, um, creatures, and Frank wrote a bestiary describing each and every one of them. And if you’re in fabulous Southern California, you can see them at a gallery show and book release at Gallery Nucleus (210 E Main Street in Alhambra) on June 1st at 7 pm, where the art wiull also be available for purchase along with a soon-to-be-announced resin figure, prints, and other pieces. Becky and Frank will be there to sign on opening night; if you can’t make it, the show will run through June 23rd. And if you’re really not going to make it, there’s a website at capturecreatures.com, and a book coming out published by B9 Kingdom available NOW at Kickstarter.

What’s next? Oh, here’s our own Chewin’ It hosts Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme in a video for YouTube Comedy Week. Enjoy their stirring portrayal of “Fatty and Tatty” as they bring you a primer on smartphones. Turns out Fatty’s a Luddite:

Bryan Basham and Jeff Hatz are back with more Skyrim machinima fun, this time a commercial break you might see if you were watching a local TV station in, um, Skyrim:

Okay, I’m late on this one, IGN’s “Death Star Destroys Enterprise” video depicting exactly that in the skies over San Francisco, but better late than never:

Atlas Genius, the Australian band you know from their hit “Trojans” that seems to be on KROQ and 98.7 here every 10 minutes (I actually heard both stations play it simultaneously the other day), covered Daft Punk’s equally ubiquitous single “Get Lucky” at Giel 3FM in the Netherlands, and here it is. It’s… different….:

British band Daughter covered it too, on BBC Radio 1:

As did Newton Faulkner and Sam Brookes, and this sounds like what I imagine the song would sound like if Jack Johnson covered it:

And in case your brain hasn’t melted yet, here’s a PMV — a Pony Music Video — of a cover of the song, for you Bronys out there, because I’m sure everyone who hears the song thinks, “You know what this song needs? My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.”:

That’s more than enough.
