When a comic book like Garth Ennis‘ Preacher gets turned into a TV series, you’re going to need a cast that can live up to the insanity. From a lead character who is a holy man possessed by the unholy offspring of an angel and a demon, to a sidekick who’s a hard-drinking Irish vampire, a femme fatale assassin, and a character affectionately named “Arseface,” you’ve got plenty of oddball characters to choose from. If the cast is any indication, these characters are going to be fun to watch.
At Legendary Digital Network’s Saloon at SXSW over the weekend, our own Dan Casey got to chat with three of the stars of the the hotly anticipated cable series: Dominic Cooper (Jesse Custer, the titular Preacher), Ruth Negga (Tulip O’Hare, Jesse’s marksman love interest), and Joseph Gilgun (Cassidy, the punk rock vampire from the Emerald Isle). It’s safe to say that all three of them had their fun in Austin, TX prior to taking the microphones, especially Gilgun (who fans might know from the excellent British series Misfits about kids doing community service who get superpowers) who immediately hugs a fan and advocates drinking. Good times.
Ah, a TV show about life’s big questions — where is God? Can we better ourselves? — with three lunatics at the center of it. We truly can’t wait, and we definitely want to spend more time with the three lead actors. They seem like a hoot and a half. Shooting in the desert must be a delight.
Preacher is set to premiere its 10-episode first season on May 22, 2016. Are you ready to take the journey? Share it with us in the comments below!
