The clock is counting down to the premiere episode of Doctor Who‘s ninth series, which is set to begin Saturday, September 19th, on BBC America. It’s only a couple weeks away! Though we’ve already seen a full minute-long trailer for the series (consisting only of images from the first few episodes), we’re going to be getting individual episode teasers as well, which are usually some of my favorite bits of quick editing on the show. That episode, “The Magician’s Apprentice,” which is written by Steven Moffat and directed by “Blink” director Hettie MacDonald, sees the return of Missy (Michelle Gomez), but we didn’t know in what context, until now.
It looks like Missy needs Clara’s help (?!?) to find the Doctor, who’s gone missing. Creepy guy whose face looks like a trussed-up lamb leg is also looking for him. Missy possesses a disc which she says is the “last will and testament of Doctor.” I’ve listened a few times, it does not sound like she says “THE Doctor,” just “Doctor.” Like she was about to say “Doctor Who,” but that would be really weird. We also see that awesome shot of Skaro and the Dalek home city, followed the Dalek Supreme talking about what he always talks about – killing the Doctor. This looks also to be the episode where we see Peter Capaldi shred some guitar, in some kind of battle against a big guy with an actual ax. I’m sure there’ll be a joke there. Oh, and there are hands with eyeballs on them coming out of the ground for nightmare fuel purposes.
We’re certainly very excited for the premiere, as we are with all of the episodes this year, which appear to be a series of two-parters, beginning with “The Magician’s Apprentice” and its follow-up “The Witch’s Familiar.” Only two more weeks!
Let me know if I missed anything major in the teaser (which packs in quite a lot for only 20 seconds) in the comment below!
