Nerdist Special Report: Pikachu Detective is on the Case!

There’s now a talking Pikachu, and he also happens to be a detective. Mind. blown.

A new Japanese trailer for Great Detective Pikachu: The Birth of a New Duo has been released, and it’s… interesting, to say the least. Like I mentioned above, the electric rascal has expanded his vocabulary beyond the usual “pika!” Join Jessica Chobot as she breaks down the cuteness in today’s Nerdist Special Report!

You’ll be teaming up with the li’l detective to solve electrifying mysteries and catch a shocking truth. The end of the trailer does include some in-game footage, but not enough to illuminate the gameplay mechanics. Unfortunately, there’s no English trailer to dive into at the moment, but you can watch the full Japanese version here:

We don’t even know how to feel about this. As strange as it may seem to have a talking Pikachu, the television show did include a talking Meowth, so it’s not unheard of. Someone really needs to figure out how to teach the rest of the pocket monsters how to speak.

We also wonder if the “new duo” that was alluded to in the game’s title will spur a new Pokémon game series, or maybe even a television show. That would be exciting.

This title will become available in Japan on February 2, so there’s still hope it’ll make its way over to NA by the end of the year.

Oh, silly me, I almost forgot to mention this: Pikachu also drinks coffee!

What do you guys think about a talking Pikachu? Does the Pokémon world need a detective? Let us know in the comments below!
