Take a Journey to Ben Affleck’s Batcave with Google Maps

I love it when Google Maps adds fictional places that you can find. It just makes things awesome. They’ve done it in the past with places like Middle-earth from the Lord of the Rings movies and it’s always good for a laugh and an imagination trip. This time out, they’ve added Bruce Wayne’s Residence from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and some Caped Crusader-level detective work (just clicking, really) when in street view mode will let you explore the Batcave as well as the modest modern cube-like home of one of the world’s most wealthy fictional men.

The map actually takes you to somewhere in a wooded area outside of Detroit, MI, because they have to put it somewhere in the real map, but for the purposes of our journey it’s the scenic landscape outside of Gotham City. I hadn’t thought about this until just this moment, but the Batcave is actually about 40 times larger than the lakeside terrarium Ben Affleck‘s Bruce calls a house. Granted, he’s only living there because something shady happened to the mansion (that’ll surely be explored in another movie), but it’s not a big domicile compared to the lush pad of a cave wherein he does his crime fighting and monster truck tire-hammering.

The best part of the Google Maps experience with this, other than getting to check out the cave in all its glory, is to read the reviews and comments from real people pretending to have been there. It continues the world building in a really funny way. Like this gentleman who said:

The house looks amazing. Last week he invited me over for some tea. I swear I saw him close a secret door and lock it with sophisticated lock systems when we entered his house that day. We are neighbours and we rarely see him at his house. Sometimes we hear the sound of a massive vehicle at night but I’m sure it’s one of his super cars. Anyway, great guy.
