STRANGER THINGS Concept Art, GOTHAM Portraits, and More TV News

Welcome back from the weekend. I’m here to get you back in your weekday routine with a helping of television news in today’s TV-Cap. The Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour is still happening so we have news about shows from the event, portraits from season three of Gotham, Stranger Things concept art and fan art, and more.

Beginning Stages. Netflix’s Stranger Things has a specific aesthetic. There’s the ’80s setting, sure, but also the spooky and haunting world of the Upside Down and the Demogorgon. Those elements took planning and artist Nuttavut Baiphowongse has shared some concept art for the monster on Facebook, while Aaron Sims Creative has a closer look at the Upside Down. See the concept art right this way.

From a Fan Perspective. Speaking of Stranger Things art, how about feasting your eyes upon a glorious gallery of fan art for the show? I rounded up several pieces, and you view them here.

Nailed It. I adore many things about Stephen Colbert, including and maybe especially his adoration for Lord of the Rings and Middle-earth mythology. He shows off his fandom regularly, but recently he answered some questions before kicking off The Late Show, and he gives a whole history lesson. It’s delightful. [Nerdist]

An Actual Ending. Fans seemed less than thrilled about the cliffhanger ending for season six of The Walking Dead, and the creative team was aware of it. Executive producer Robert Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly, “…I definitely have to take note that there’s a seemingly significant portion of the audience that wasn’t happy with that direction, so in that respect I think everyone on The Walking Dead creative team has taken note of that, and I don’t know that I would expect a similar cliffhanger at the end of season seven.” That’s a relief. Rights in Motion. Universal Cable Productions has nabbed the rights to bring George R.R. Martin’s Wild Cards to television. Wild Cards is a comic anthology that has been around for a few decades. Martin won’t be hands-on for the series but has executive producers in place. It’s in development, so we’ll keep you posted about any pick-ups or series orders. [Nerdist]

Doctor This. Hugh Laurie is back in the role of doctor for a new Hulu series called Chance. He’ll play forensic neuropsychiatrist Eldon Chance. You can read more about the character and series with thoughts from Laurie here at Nerdist.

Visions Incoming. Hulu teased a few new series at the TCAs, including one starring Jeffrey Donovan. He’s set to play a con man psychic in Shut Eye. Things get interesting for Donovan’s character when he starts to have real visions. Get the full report on the show from Sydney here at Nerdist.

Going for Traumedy. Amazon has explored a variety of territory with their original series, and with Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi, they’re going for a blend of trauma and comedy that’s somewhat based on Notaro’s life. Learn about how much of the show is real and its darkness in this recap from the TCAs.

Best Feet Forward. Could an Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow crossover already be happening? The CW series only recently started shooting their next seasons, so this photo shared by Stephen Amell could be for a promo image or sizzle reel of some kind. Regardless, it’s fun to see stars from all four shows together. [TVLine]

Finish This Breakfast. Michael Chapman and Matthew Chapman, a.k.a. the Brothers Chaps, are best known as the creators of Homestar Runner, but if you didn’t know, the pair has been working on a series of animated shorts for Disney XD called Two More Eggs. Get a taste in the above video and finish your meal by watching additional shorts starring the eggs here at Nerdist.

Court of Owls. Curious about what Court of Owls goodness is coming to Gotham in season three? We spoke with the cast at Comic-Con, and you can watch the video here. And also, Fox has released some elegant character portraits for the upcoming season, debuting September 19; you can view a whole gallery of them at Comic Book Resources. [Images: Fox]

Do you watch Gotham? If so, what are you most looking forward to about season three? Talk to me about that or anything else from today’s TV-Cap in the comments.
