STAR WARS Droids and Aliens Get New Royal Mail Stamps

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi slated to be released in just a few short moths, there’s going to be no shortage of collectibles with your favorite characters from the franchise. Posters, statues, books, comics, and more are all on the table, and so are new sets of collectible Star Wars stamps from the United Kingdom’s Royal Mail.

Via Jedi News, Royal Mail has announced its Star Wars: Droids and Aliens stamps will feature seven characters from The Last Jedi and one character from Rogue One. Included among the lot are Maz Kanata, Chewbacca, Supreme Leader Snoke, a Porg, BB-8, R2-D2, C-3PO, and K-2SO. Each of the stamp illustrations was created by artist Malcolm Tween, and they are slated to go sale on October 12.

The four droid stamps are also said to feature fluorescent ink that will become visible under UV light. But what really intrigues us are the official descriptions from Royal Mail, which seem to offer a few hints about the upcoming movie. There are minor spoilers ahead for The Last Jedi! Consider yourselves warned.

First, Maz Kanata’s description describes her as a “friend to Jedi” before noting that “her castle contains secrets that tell of one Luke Skywalker.” Maybe she should start with the story of how she found his lightsaber that was lost on Bespin. Snoke’s description confirms that he trained Kylo Ren in the dark side of the Force, and he is ready to complete Kylo’s training in the new film. As for the Porgs, we’re told that they’ve lived peacefully alongside Luke near the first Jedi Temple, but “the birds are ill-prepared for the arrival of strangers when Rey and Chewbacca land there in the Millennium Falcon.”

To buy the stamps, you can visit Royal Mail’s site here, or go to any post office in the United Kingdom.

Update, September 6, 2017:

Royal Mail has shared a look at the making of the Snoke illustration by Tween. I am thoroughly creeped out.

As a palate cleanser, you can also see how the porg art came to life.
