STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION Honest Trailer Pulls No Punches

Star Trek: The Next Generation turns thirty years old this year, and the show that many fans thought would fail to live up to its legendary predecessor ended up becoming a classic in its own right. Having said that however, the show had a very bumpy first couple of seasons, and the folks over at Screen Junkies have produced one of their Honest Trailers for Star Trek: The Next Generation, and I have to admit they kind of nailed Next Generation’s many faults and cliches.

It took a little while for TNG to find its footing and was filled with questionable writing and acting choices from just about everyone involved. Poor Patrick Stewart once had to recite a speech in an alien insect language in season one. It’s really hard to watch.

And even when the show got great around the time of the third season, there is no arguing that they definitely fell into relying on certain tropes over and over again. I mean, how many times could the damn holodeck break down and almost kill everyone on the Enterprise before Captain Picard declares it a health hazard?? And that episode where Dr. Crusher has sex with an Scottish space ghost? Yeah, it really is that bad and deserving of all mockery thrown its way.

Even for someone like me who adores TNG, it’s pretty spot-on. Except that part where they make fun of the episode where they travel back in time and meet Mark Twain. I kind of love that one, ok?

What do you think of Star Trek: The Next Genration’s Honest Trailer? Is it really honest, or just mean spirited, or both? Let us know what you think down below in the comments.
